Welcome to Sakuma Laboratory!
Our laboratory is aiming to address the challenges of an aging society, dedicated to uncovering the reasons behind muscle atrophy (sarcopenia) associated with aging, as well as identifying effective methods to mitigate it (such as exercise, supplements, and diet). The global leading theory suggests that sarcopenia occurs due to the breakdown of the protein recycling mechanism (autophagy), leading to the accumulation of unnecessary proteins within skeletal muscle cells.
We are currently recruiting students for our Master's and Doctoral programs. Why not join us in the Human and Social Sciences Course? We are looking for individuals interested in sports and exercise, as well as physical therapists (PT), occupational therapists (OT), and registered dietitians with an interest in skeletal muscle. All backgrounds are welcome, so please feel free to contact us!
